Tunisia: unemployment rate stabilizes at 15.3% in Q2 2019

The number of unemployed estimated for the second quarter of 2019 stands at 634.9 thousand of the total labor force, against 637.7 thousand unemployed in the first quarter of 2019.

The unemployment rate recorded for the second quarter is 15.3%, stabilizing compared to the first quarter of 2019.

This rate was 15.5% at the end of the third and fourth quarters of 2018.

The unemployment rate for the second quarter of 2019 is estimated at 12.3% for men and 22.4% for women.

The youth unemployment rate is 34.4%. This rate is estimated at 34.2% for men and 34.5% for women.

The number of unemployed graduates of higher education is estimated at 253.0 thousand in the second quarter of 2019 against 255.4 thousand in the first quarter of 2019, down 2.4 thousand.

The unemployment rate for this group fell from 28.2% to 28.0%.

In the end, the active population in Tunisia stood at 4,162.8 thousand in the second quarter of 2019 against 4,158.1 thousand in the first quarter of 2019, i.e. an increase of about 4.7 thousand.

This population is divided into 2,959.9 thousand men and 1,202.9 thousand women, which accounts for 71.1% and 28.9% of the active population, respectively.

The distribution of occupations by sector of activity is as follows: 52.2% in the service sector, 18.4% in the manufacturing sector, 15.7% in the non-manufacturing sector and 13.8% in the agriculture and fisheries sector.
