Tunisia: unemployment stands at 17.4% in Q4 2020

The unemployment rate in Tunisia has risen to 17.4% in Q4 2020, compared to 16.2% in Q3 of the same year, the National Institute of Statistics announced Monday.

The results of the National Survey on Population and Employment for the fourth quarter of 2020 showed that the number of unemployed reached 725.1 thousand unemployed out of the total labor force, against 676.6 thousand registered unemployed in Q3 2020.

This takes the unemployment rate to 17.4% in Q4 2020, against 16.2% in Q3.

The unemployment rate for men is 14.4%, up 0.9 points, while it is estimated for women at 24.9%, an increase of 2.1 points in Q4 2020, said the same source.

The National Institute of Statistics also reported that the number of employed went down by 78.3 thousand workers in Q4 2020 after the rise recorded in Q3.

The overall number of labor force stood at 3,433.4 thousand in Q4 2020, more than two-thirds of them are male, compared to 3,511.6 thousand IN Q3, 2020, it added.

Workers in the business sector are divided into 52.8% in the service sector, 17.9% in the industrial sector, 16% in the non-manufacturing sector and 13.3% in the agriculture and fisheries sector.
