Tunisia: UTICA cautions against serious economic situation

Tunisian Industry, Trade and Handicrafts Union (UTICA) Chairwoman Wided Bouchmaoui warned against “the seriousness of the falling economic indicators, notably those of investment and employment.”

She pointed, during a meeting held on Thursday in Tunis on the economic and social situation, that “the issue requires an urgent and rapid intervention and that there is no time to waste.”

UTICA Chairwoman underscored, in a statement a copy of which was received by TAP news agency, “the need for establishing social peace, putting an end to sit-ins and anarchic strikes that have damaged private companies and public property.”

The meeting, which was held with the attendance of the executive bureau members, members of the National Transition Committee, chairmen of sectoral federations of the regional unions and UTICA executives, provided the opportunity to examine preparations for the organization’s 15th congress, notably after having renewed a large part of its local structures and regional chambers.
