Tunisia: volume of banknotes and coins in circulation exceeds 16 billion dinars (BCT)

The volume of banknotes and coins in circulation has increased significantly in recent months to 16.2 billion dinars on August 17, 2019, its highest level ever recorded.

Compared to the same date last year, their volume of has risen by 2 billion dinars, according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

The increase in banknote circulation reflects a clear preference of Tunisians and economic operators for the use of cash.

This observation is all the more confirmed by the comparative evolution since 2011 of the average annual growth rates of banknotes and coins in circulation at the end of the period or in terms of annual average and current GDP.
