Tunisia: Wataniya Telecom in line for the 3G license

Kuwaiti company Wataniya Telecom of which Qatar’s Qtel is majority shareholder is planning to bid, next week, for the call for tenders on the allocation of the 3G license of mobile and fixed phones and Internet services in Tunisia, reports the corresponding Africanmanager in the Gulf.

According to Nasser Maarafia, board member of the Kuwaiti group, the Tunisian government has initiated the process of the tender that should end by the government’s decision in the next month.

He assured that obtaining this license will allow the company to provide better Internet services.

For his part, Abdullah bin Saud Al Thani, Chairman of Qtel Group, said the number of subscribers of Tunisiana increased in 2011 to reach 6.6 million, up 700,000.
