Tunisia will work to win back investors’ confidence (new Industry Minister)

“We will work to win back the confidence of Tunisian and foreign investors and stimulate investment in inland and disadvantaged regions,” said newly appointed Industry and Trade Minister Mohamed Lamine Chakhari.

The new Minister, who was addressing journalists as he took up duties on Tuesday, said that the new team will give priority to social issues, restoring confidence of Tunisian and foreign investors and boosting investment in inland and disadvantaged regions.

He called for putting an end to sit-ins that have impacted negatively on some strategic sectors such as phosphates and chemical industries.

Mr. Abdelaziz Rassaa, outgoing Minister of Industry and Technology said energy production in Tunisia fell by 10% in 2011.

He said that the industry department has not managed to create the 23,000 new industrial jobs as a result of the difficult conditions faced by the country since January 14, 2011.
