According to the latest statistics released by the National Statistics Institute (INS), Tunisia’s trade deficit widened during the year 2014, to 13,635.9 million Tunisian dinars (MTD), from 11,808.2 MTD in 2013, recording a loss of 1,827.7 MTD.
Nearly 26.7% of the trade deficit comes from the energy deficit (3,639.8 MTD).
The trade deficit is also due to a 2.5% decrease in the coverage of imports by exports from 70.1% in 2013 to 67.6% in 2014.
