‘WEF on Africa, platform to promote African Agenda’

South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma has described the ongoing World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa as a perfect platform to promote the African Agenda.

President Zuma spoke Wednesday night as he opened the 23rd WEF on Africa being attended by hundreds of delegates here.

He said the three-day event, with the theme “Delivering on Africa’s Promise”, coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Organization of African Unity which will be celebrated later this month.

“We have an opportunity to demonstrate to investors, the competitive advantages of our economy. We are rated highly on areas such as infrastructure development, financial markets, technological readiness, business sophistication and innovation,” said President Zuma.

The conference, which has drawn leaders from business, government, civil society and academia from around the world, is one of the regional spin-offs of the annual WEF Davos conference, an event that takes place every year in late January.

The conference will address the challenge of raising living standards around the continent and making Africa a global player.

In addition to a two-day public programme, there will also be a number of significant meetings on the fringes, including the Grow Africa Investment Forum which will attempt to build on its successes in 2012 by underscoring further commitment from both the public and private sectors.
