2 South Africans die in Indonesian chopper crash

South Africa’s Department of International Relations on Thursday confirmed that two South Africans were among the 10 people killed in a helicopter crash in central Indonesia on Wednesday.

Department spokesperson Clayson Monyela said the victims were working for an Australian mining company, Newcrest.

Their names will be released once their families have been informed.

The other people killed in the crash were two Australians and six Indonesians.

The Bell 412 helicopter crashed in heavy rain shortly after taking off from Manado on Sulawesi Island.

Meanwhile, four people have been treated for shock after their helicopter crashed at the University of Cape Town on Wednesday morning.

The Robinson 44 helicopter plummeted to the ground after it experienced engine failure. The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the incident
