8 African countries join Declaration on Innovative Financing

Eight African countries have joined the Declaration on Innovative Financing for Development, the spokesman of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bernard Valero, said Tuesday in Paris.

“Mali, Benin, Burkina Faso, Congo, Guinea, Mauritania, Senegal and Togo have joined the community of countries that engage in the search for new funding for international solidarity and developing poor countries, in addition to official development assistance,” Valero said.

He told a press briefing the eight African countries, by signing the Declaration, called on the G-20 to mobilize innovative financing for development.

“France also welcomes the announcement by Guinea, during this session on the implementation of a tax on airline tickets,” added the Foreign Affairs spokesman, noting that the 9th session of the Leading Group on Innovative Financing was held in Bamako on Saturday.

Launched by the initiative of several countries, including France and Brazil, innovative financing are seen as an effective solution to raise new stable and predictable resources for financing needs for poverty reduction, access to medicines, education, drinking water and job creation.

Almost US$ 6 billion have been collected in recent years through the various initiatives introduced within the framework of innovative financing
