Ghana’s inflation drops again

Ghana’s rate of inflation for August dropped slightly to 9 .44 per cent from 9.46 per cent recorded in July, thanks to low food prices, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) announced on Wednesday.

This is the 14th consecutive monthly fall since July 2009.

Mr Ebo Duncan, Head of Economic Statistics Unit of GSS said in Accra that favour able food prices helped the marginal decline in the rate.

“The downward pressure on inflation can be attributed to the food and non-alcoho lic beverages group,” he said.

Mr Duncan said it was difficult to predict the trend for inflation in the remain ing months of the year but expressed the hope that food prices could remain low a nd that this could impact on the rate.
