World Bank donates US$17.2m to Togo for development projects

The World Bank has donated US$17.2 million or 7.2 billion F CFA to Togo for the financing of its Community Development Project (CDP), official sources told PANA here Thursday.

The CPD, World Bank officials explain, pursues the same goals as that of the Emergency Poverty Reduction Programme, which helped implement 200 projects in the country’s poor regions.

CPD, which covers education, health, water and sanitation as well as income-generating activities, will help finance 350 projects identified by the grass root communities in the country’s five economic regions.

It will also help support local communities through Support Agencies to Grassroot Initiatives of Togo’s five economic regions.

The agreement for the CPD was signed by the Togolese Economy and Finance Minister, Adji Otèth Ayassor, and the new World Bank Operations Director for Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritania, Niger and Togo, Madani Tall, during a visit to Togo.
