The olive harvest in the governorate of Monastir is estimated this year at 6,200 tons, i.e. the equivalent of 1,240 tons of oil and 4,100 m3 of margine, Mounira Sahloul, official at the local agricultural development commission told TAP Monday.
Initial estimates put forward in June, had forecast a harvest of olives of 12,800 tons, down 79% compared to the annual average in the area which is 60 thousand 500 tons.
The downward revision of these estimates, in September, is due to high temperatures recorded in summer and the rainfall deficit, said the source.
