Domestic crude oil production dropped 13% to 1,248 kilotons (kt) at the end of September 2022, compared with the end of September 2021, according to the monthly report on the energy situation at the end of September 2022, published by the National Observatory of Energy and Mines.
This drop affected most of the main fields, namely Halk el Manzel, which started production in 2021 (-64%), Baraka (-65%), Adam (-22%), Cherouq (-21%), M.L.D (-17%), El borma (-8%), Hasdrubal (-7%), Cercina (-17%) and Nawara (-6%). Other fields, on the other hand, saw an improvement in production, namely Gherib (+111%), Franig/Bag/Tarfa (+16%) and Ashtart (+1%).
Average daily oil production fell from 40.4 thousand barrels/d at the end of September 2021 to 35.5 thousand barrels/d at the end of September 2022.
Natural gas resources (national production + fiscal package) stood at 2,181 ktoe at the end of September 2022, posting a slight increase of 0.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. The production of dry natural gas decreased by 5%.
The fiscal package on the passage of Algerian gas fell significantly during the first half of 2020, as the pandemic that hit Europe and Italy in particular had a strong impact on the demand for energy and consequently on the quantity of gas transiting from Algeria to Italy through Tunisia.
Nevertheless, an improvement was observed from July 2020 onwards and this continues during 2021 and 2022.
Purchases of Algerian gas increased 8% between the end of September 2021 and the end of September 2022, to 1,857 ktoe, due to higher demand after the end of the lockdown from May 2021 and the decrease in production.
Domestic natural gas supply was stable during the same period to stand at 3,868 ktoe.
