Several major energy projects to be launched soon!

From November 26 to 28, 2025, Tunisia will host the third edition of the International Energy Transition Expo, bringing together decision-makers, experts, and economic actors to strengthen the role of energy as a driver of sustainable growth, innovation, and national sovereignty.

The event will focus on making energy transition a strategic axis capable of turning environmental challenges into economic opportunities, enhancing the country’s energy independence, and accelerating industrial sector development.

Under the theme “Energy Transition: Towards Sustainable Development”, the expo will host over 40 Tunisian and international companies, 500 representatives from the public and private sectors, and around 2,500 visitors.

It will provide a platform to discuss innovative solutions, structuring projects, and opportunities for diversifying energy production.

In this context, Wael Chouchène, Secretary of State in charge of Energy Transition at the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy, announced that several major energy projects will be launched soon, including a 100-megawatt project in Kairouan and 50-megawatt projects in Sidi Bouzid and Tozeur.

He highlighted the importance of the event in supporting and attracting additional investments in renewable energy, aligning with state policy and the energy transition agenda.

Ali Kenzari, President of the National Trade Chamber for Installation and Maintenance of Photovoltaic Equipment, stressed the expo’s importance given Tunisia’s energy deficit, which requires mobilization of both public and private sectors to support the energy independence rate, which did not exceed 36% by the end of September 2025.

He also noted that the commissioning of these three power plants will increase energy production to approximately 900,000 megawatts.

Tunisia’s 2035 Vision

Tunisia aims to raise the share of renewable energy to 50% of its energy mix by 2035, reduce the carbon intensity of its economy by 46%, and achieve carbon neutrality with an 80% renewable energy mix by 2050.

To this end, developing a national energy strategy represents a real opportunity to initiate a new energy model, strengthen energy independence, and contribute to socio-economic development.

This strategy will rely heavily on the synthesis and updating of recent energy and climate foresight studies conducted in Tunisia.

Financing energy efficiency projects in municipalities

The National Agency for Energy Management (ANME) has launched its second call for expressions of interest to finance energy efficiency projects in municipalities. Selected municipalities can apply for loans through the Local Authorities Loan and Support Fund (CPSL).

This initiative is part of the ACTE program, led by ANME in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, CPSL, and the Training and Support Center for Decentralization.

The call aims to encourage Tunisian municipalities to develop innovative green projects in three main areas: energy efficiency to optimize energy consumption in municipal buildings, vehicle fleets, and public lighting networks, renewable energy, primarily self-consumption projects to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and territorial studies, aimed at improving energy performance in municipalities, including urban mobility studies.
