Air CEMAC picks Air France as new strategic partner

The Economic and Monetary Community of African States (CEMAC) has chosen Air France as the new strategic partner for the regional grouping’s airline, Air CEMAC, according to a statement from the Congolese Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.

The choice follows a recent meeting of Civil Aviation Ministers of the CEMAC in Brazzaville, attended by Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Chad.

The French carrier was preferred to the South African Airways, with which Air CEMAC could not conclude a final agreement after months of negotiation.

According to the statement, Air France meets the conditions set by Air CEMAC to start operating by January 2013.

Before launching the airline’s operations, CEMAC heads of state will first validate the findings of the general meeting of ministers, at a summit to be held this month in Brazzaville.

Air CEMAC will operate scheduled flights among the member countries of the sub-regional bloc.
