Angola-bound cargo plane crashes in Windhoek, kills 3

An Angola-bound light cargo plane crashed shortly aft er takeoff from Namibiaâ?s Eros Airport Sunday, killing three people including t he pilot.

The aircraft, a Cessna Caravan, was bound for Onjiva, in southern part of Angola , when it crashed in Windhoekâ?s Prosperita industrial area.

The ministry of works and transport said it was still investigating the cause of the crash.

It said the pilot of the South African registered cargo plane and two other pass engers died from injuries sustained in the crash, while one other passenger is i n intensive care unit.

â?Shortly after takeoff the pilot reported having difficulties to maintain the proper rate of climbing. The aircraft turned right and crashed in the open area c lose to Prosperita,â? the ministry said in a statement.

The plane is owned by ‘Aviation at Work’, a Pretoria-based company, and was oper ated by an Angolan firm called Airnav.

Reports Monday said the aircraft could have been overloaded with cargo. The plan e is reported to have been carrying building materials and some foodstuffs.
