The Swedish group Borgstena, a global specialist in technical textiles for the automotive industry, has selected Tunisia as the location for its latest industrial investment, reinforcing the country’s growing role in advanced manufacturing.
The newly established facility is located in El Alia/Aousja, in the governorate of Bizerte, and operates under the group’s local subsidiary, Dual Borgstena Trim Tunisia. The site will focus on the production of high-end automotive textiles, including trims, interior coverings, and technical reinforcements used in vehicle interiors.
This investment follows a series of exploratory visits and consultations between Borgstena executives and key Tunisian industry stakeholders, notably the Tunisian Federation of Textiles and Apparel and the Tunisian Automotive Association, underscoring a collaborative approach to industrial development.
On March 25, 2026, Sweden’s Ambassador to Tunisia, Cecilia Wramsten, conducted an official visit to the newly inaugurated site. She described the project as a strong signal of investor confidence in Tunisia’s industrial ecosystem, highlighting the country’s skilled workforce and the potential for long-term, sustainable partnerships in the technical textiles sector.
Founded in 1925 in Sweden, Borgstena has evolved into a leading global supplier of automotive textile solutions, combining innovation, Scandinavian design, and high-performance engineering.
The group’s operations span the entire value chain, from yarn extrusion and dyeing to advanced fabric manufacturing technologies such as circular knitting, flat knitting, and weaving, followed by design, cutting, sewing, and specialized finishing processes.
Its product portfolio includes seat fabrics, door panel and headliner coverings, integrated interior textiles designed for comfort and performance, as well as solutions for commercial and specialized vehicles.
Prior to its expansion into Tunisia, Borgstena had already established a strong international footprint, with operations across Europe (Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Romania), South America (Brazil), and Asia, including facilities in China and partnerships such as Ara Borgstena Sdn Bhd in Malaysia.
