Banda in Nambia to commission power line

Zambian President Rupiah Banda arrived in Namibia on Fri day to join President Hifikepunya Pohamba of Namibia for the commissioning of a p ower line that will connect the two countries.

Banda is in the Namibian town of Katima Mulilo, near the border with Zambia, whe re he would officially commission the Caprivi link inter-connector, which would l ink the electricity transmission lines between the state-run power utility compa n ies of Zambia (ZESCO) and Namibia (NAMPOWER).

â?This line will facilitate exchanges of power between the two utilities for tr ade purposes as well as during emergencies, where there are deficits on either s i de,â? Banda said in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Press and P ublic Relations, Dickson Jere.

The transmission line being launched has an optic fibre installed on it, which w ill enhance the availability of broadband communication of Internet and data ser v ices for the two countries.

Zambia’s Energy and Water Development, Minister Kenneth Konga, is on Banda’s ent ourage.
