The price of bread has gone up in Gabon starting Mond ay, when bakers unilaterally raised the price of a 200 gram bread from 125 to 150 or 175 CFA F.
However, the price hike did not receive the blessing of the Gabonese authorities , who declared the increase illegal and unjustifiable.
Following the increase, Gabonese Minister of Economy Magloire Ngambia issued a s tatement recalling that bread was among commodities whose prices are regulated and can be increased only with the prior approval of the government.
According to the ministerial statement, changes in the price of wheat on the int ernational market should not have any impact on the price of bread in Gabon.
