The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Foreign Affairs and Consular), today issued the following statement:
“Canada is pleased that Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has granted Mohamed Fahmy a pardon.
“Canada has consistently called at the highest level for Mr. Fahmy’s release and return to Canada.
“The Government of Canada will continue to provide Mr. Fahmy with consular assistance and will assist in facilitating his departure from Egypt.
“We look forward to Mr. Fahmy reuniting with his family and loved ones, and his return to Canada.”
