The number of telephone subscribers on the networks of the four Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network operators in Nigeria fell by 1,069,485 lines or 17.3 per cent in 2011, the private National Mirror newspaper reported Thursday.
It said the loss was recorded by the operators within the first 10 months of the year.
According to the paper, the CDMA operators – Starcomms, Visafone, Multi-Links and Zoom Mobile – lost 10 billion naira in revenues during the period, based on the Average Revenue Per User in Nigeria currently put at 1,000 naira a month by industry experts (US$1=155 Naira).
ARPU is the financial benchmark used globally by telecommunications companies to measure the average monthly or yearly revenue generated from an average subscriber.
