Congolese Transport Minister Rodolphe Adada has listed the modernisation of ports and facilities, the reduction of costs and delays in the transit of goods as some of the challenges facing the continent’s shipping sector.
Mr. Adada spoke at the opening of the 7th edition of African shippers meeting on Monday in Brazzaville, organised under the auspices of the Union of African Shippers Council (UASC).
He pleaded for the development of a new policy for the management of the sea and welcomes the initiative of the African Union (AU) which focused on the African integrated strategy for the seas and oceans by 2050.
The Director-General of the Congolese Shipping Council (CSC), Jacques Banouanina Dia Ngoma, underlined the importance of investments in trade facilitation and infrastructure.
According to him, the discussions and recommendations that will come out from the Brazzaville meeting should have an impact on the development of the maritime economy of the West and Central Africa sub-region .
PANA recalls that the first edition of the African Shippers meeting was held in 1999 in Accra, Ghana, while the 6th edition was held in 2012 in Libreville, Gabon.
