The Italian deputy minister for Economic development, Carlo Calenda, said here Tuesday that his country was willing to assist Congo consolidate efforts made in the domain of infrastructure.
The minister, who arrived Monday in Brazzaville leading a 70-member, high-level delegation including 35 company managers, was shown round the sports complex of Kintélé, in Brazzaville.
“We have come here to look into and evaluate the investment opportunities in Congo where there is huge potential,” said Mr. Calenda.
“We decided to support the projects discussed during the visit made by the Italian Prime minister to Brazzaville in 2014 and to support Congo as a fellow nation,” he added.
Work at the Kintélé sports complex is being done to enable Congo host the 11th All-Africa Games in Brazzaville this September.
In addition to the complex being linked to the 50th anniversary of the Games, Italian companies will also construct 5,000 houses in the area.
During their visit, the Italian delegation will hold a working session with Congolese party before visiting the sites of the special economic zones of Oyo-Ollombo, in the north of the country, and Pointe-Noire, Congo’s main economic and industrial centre.
After Kintélé, the Italians will visit the housing units being built on the site of the barracks destroyed by the explosions on 4 March, 2012, which claimed about 300 lives.
