Contracts awarded without public bidding fall in Burkina Faso

The number of contracts awarded without public bidding has significant dropped in Burkina Faso, according to an assessment conducted by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

According to the assessment, obtained by PANA in Paris Tuesday, the dramatic decline in the number of such contracts results from government’s efforts to implement measures aimed at ensuring transparency and good governance in the West African country.

Procurement is a major source of corruption and misappropriation of public funds in Burkina Faso and other African countries.

Tens of millions of dollars are sometimes involved in these contracts, which include construction of infrastructure, schools and health centres, among others.
