Directors of Guinea Energy company suspended

Guinea’s Minister of State, Papa Kolly Kourouma, has suspended the directors of the Energy Company of Guinea (EDG) for “gross negligence”, national television has reported, quoting a ministerial order.

It said this “gross negligence” consisted of the use of “inappropriate” fuel that led to the total cut of electricity supplies to power stations of Tombo 3 and Tombo 5 that served Conakry, the capital of the country, and its surroundings.

According to the order, the Minister will soon appoint an executive to manage the company in the interim.

Power cuts have been frequent in Conakry for several years and currently affect all the districts of the town, notably those housing the ministries and banks
