Draft code of administrative justice is too “controversial”

The Association of Tunisian Judges (AMT) has denounced the “hasty” decision to submit the draft code of administrative justice to the President of the Republic, despite the controversy around it.

«Although it is the centre of a controversy, the draft code of administrative justice was quickly presented to the Head of State by the first president of the Administrative Court,» the AMT said in a statement.

«Members of the committee in charge of drafting the code resigned to contest the unilateral decisions taken by the first president of the Administrative Court,» the AMT added.

According to the association, the latest draft of this code was presented to judges of the administrative court last September. However, «it is only a draft text that is still under review and contains many serious shortcomings. It requires substantial and profound revisions to guarantee independence and facilitate public access to Administrative justice,» the AMT said.
