EU, Morocco, Tunisia discuss free trade agreement

The European Union (EU) will soon open talks with Morocco and Tunisia in a bid to conclude a free trade agreement with the two north African countries, according to a statement received here Monday by PANA.

It said the talks will be opened in accordance with the recommendations of the European Council to enhance agreements with the two countries in order to “improve market access, investment climate and support economic reforms in these countries while taking into account the specifics of each of them,”

The European Commission said in the statement that talks with Morocco will be launched shortly and those with Tunisia will open after the final EU-Tunisian bilateral meeting.

The EU will also do preparatory work with Egypt to conclude a free trade agreement with Cairo, the statement added.
