France has written off Burundi’s 72 million euro deb t to the European country, official sources said in Bujumbura on Wednesday.
The agreement on the debt forgiveness was signed on Wednesday by Burundi’s Finan ce minister, Mrs Clautilde Nizigama, and the French ambassador to Burundi, Joël Louvet.
The ceremony was held in the presence of several personalities including the reg ional director of the French Development Agency (AFD), Jean-Pierre Marcelli.
Burundi’s overall external debt is officially estimated at US$1.5 billion.
