Ghana consoles Venezuela on Chavez death

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has sent a message of condolence to the government and people of Venezuela, following the death of President Hugo Chavez on 5 March.

A statement issued in the capital city, Accra, on Wednesday night quoted President Mahama to have said in the message: “On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana l extend deep condolences to the Government and people of Venezuela, especially the bereaved family.”

He said President Chavez would be remembered for dedicating himself to building a new society in his country through progressive social and economic change that took millions of Venezuelans out of poverty.

The body of President Chavez is lying in state at the military academy in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, before a state funeral on Friday.
