Italy promises strong economic cooperation with Tunisia

Tunisia hosted on Friday, September 26, 2025, the “Investment Africa 2025” forum, organized by the Delta Center, Confimprese Italia – Tunisia, and the Confederation of Citizen Enterprises of Tunisia (CONECT).

This 1st edition aims to promote strong partnerships between Italian companies and Tunisian operators, while creating a favorable framework for bilateral exchanges.

Investment Africa 2025 aims to facilitate the development of strong commercial relations between Italian companies and Tunisian economic operators by offering initial facilitated access to the local market, with a particular focus on the organization of personalized bilateral meetings between Italian companies, authorities, and Tunisian companies.

A visit to Italian factories already operating in Tunisia, scheduled for the first day, offers participants the opportunity to discover the successful experiences of those who have been working and producing in Tunisia for years.

Bringing together governments, financial institutions, and international organizations, Investment Africa also plans B2B meetings, as well as visits to Italian companies already established in the country in order to highlight concrete experiences.

During his speech, Alessandro Prunas, Italy’s ambassador to Tunis, affirmed that his country recognizes the role that Tunisia can play as a strategic partner with Italy.

The diplomat emphasized the importance of the bilateral partnership in serving the interests of the two countries and the two friendly peoples, recalling that bilateral relations date back many years and continue to strengthen thanks to close cooperation in various fields.

He also highlighted the strength of the Tunisian-Italian economic relations and the promising prospects that Tunisia offers to Italian companies wishing to establish themselves there, thanks to the numerous advantages and incentives that promote investment.

Italy plans to further intensify its economic presence in Tunisia

The value of trade exchanges between Tunisia and Italy reached, in 2024, 21 billion dinars. Italy thus represents Tunisia’s second economic partner and the second destination for the export of Tunisian products.

Indeed, the economic sector represents one of the pillars of bilateral cooperation, especially since nearly one thousand Italian companies operate in Tunisia, not only in the traditional textile sector but also in other sectors, including agriculture and mechanics.

Italian companies also provide nearly 80,000 direct jobs thanks to the various activities launched in Tunisia, in addition to the number of indirect jobs created.

Tunisia offers advantages such as geographical proximity, the low cost of production factors, and local regulations favorable to investment, making it an important hub for access to African markets.

To go into detail, the automotive sector includes 280 companies, 65% of which operate exclusively in international markets, Germany being the destination of 37% of total exports, followed by France (21%), Romania (12%), and Italy (11%), for a total of 90,201 employees.

The simplicity of establishment procedures, the protection of intellectual property, simplified customs procedures, the deduction of income or profits from activity, and the possibility of covering infrastructure costs in the industrial sector limited to 10% of the project cost contribute to attracting Italian companies.
