The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chad.
They discussed the situation in Chad and exchanged views on regional developments, including the ongoing crisis in the Central African Republic, Boko Haram’s activities in the Lake Chad basin area, and the situation in Libya, Mali and the Sahel. They also discussed the importance of the sustainable development and climate change agendas.
The Secretary-General offered the support of the United Nations for an inclusive national dialogue in the run-up to the upcoming legislative and presidential elections.
The Secretary-General expressed his condolences for the victims of the recent bombings in N’Djamena, recognising that Chad was on the front lines of the fight against Boko Haram. He welcomed Chad’s efforts to counter the threat posed by Boko Haram, which should strictly comply with international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law.
