A Rwandan plane, Rwandair Express, on Thursday hit an ai rport building at the Kigali international airport on take off for a flight to E n tebbe, Uganda, killing one person and leaving several others wounded.
“A 43-year old lady died immediately while a dozen other passengers on board and five crew members have been admitted to hospital for injuries sustained, accord i ng to Radio Rwanda.
The incident is Rwandair’s first crash since the company was set up in 1996.
The plane, hired by the Kenyan company, ‘Jetlink’, was cruising for take off bef ore veering off course to hit the building which houses the VIP lounge.
Rwanda police dismissed the possibility of a terrorist attack when questioned by PANA.
“This was just a simple accident caused by an engine breakdown,” police said.
