Senegal designs sectoral policy for economic development

Stressing the need to ensure that economic programmes and projects
in Senegal are based on previously well-defined macro-economic development and sectoral goals, the Senegalese budget minister, Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, Tuesday said the measure would increase the efficacy and efficiency of public expenditure and make the monitoring and evaluation of policies effective.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of a workshop here to launch the sectoral policy development letter (LPSD) of the ministry of the Economy and Finance, Diallo indicated that the aim of the two-day meeting was to mobilize stakeholders.

Diallo declared that the LPSD would be the first comprehensive and integrated consistency framework of the ministry which will showcase essential functions, strategies and the contribution to Senegal’s overall development programme.

”The design of the LPSD offers an opportunity for actors of our department to get mobilized around challenges the ministry has to meet,” he said.

According to Diallo, the aim is to attain budget efficiency with a prior definition of goals and, at the end of the exercise, the production of an annual performance report.

He indicated that the strategies include the use of multi-annual programming instruments for the efficient management of public resources, reform management and transparency.
