Suspension of fishing licences for vessels in violation of VMS

Fishing licenses will be suspended for vessels in violation of the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) until their situation is resolved, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources said Monday.

These boats will also be deprived of all port services, including the granting of the subsidised diesel bonus and participation in exceptional fishing seasons, the ministry added in a statement.

The ministry reiterated its appeal to shipowners with marine fishing units longer than 15 metres to apply for membership in this system.

Shipowners are called upon to equip themselves with peripherals after obtaining the necessary authorisations from the Ministry of Communication Technologies and Digital Processing.

For ships that already had commitments with the Ministry of Communication Technologies and Digital Processing, their owners are required to provide the requested documents and to leave the equipment operational at all times, either when the fuel supply is requested or during the entire previous sea trip.
