Top Rwandan banker jailed 30 years for war crimes

A Brussels criminal court has sentenced a former dire ctor of the Rwandan commercial bank, Ephrem Nkezabera, to 30 years in prison fo r War Crimes, including murders and rapes, during his country’s 1994 genocide, of f icial sources told PANA here.

According to the sources, the jury found the former director guilty of homicides , homicide attempts and rapes.

Nkezabera, 57, was sentenced in absentia because he is terminally ill with liver cancer and his lawyers refused to represent him in court.

Dubbed “the Genocide Banker, Nkezabera did not attend any of his month-long tria l and a request from the former banker for his trial to be postponed for health r easons was dismissed.
