Tunisia: 17 oil exploration permits still valid at end of March 2023

The total number of valid oil permits reached 17 at the end of March 2023, including 14 exploration permits and 3 prospecting permits, according to the report on the energy situation in March 2023 published by the National Observatory of Energy and Mines under the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy on Tuesday.

The total number of concessions is 56, of which 44 are in production. The State participates through ETAP in 34 of these concessions in production and directly in 3, according to the same source.

A new exploration permit, “Boughrara”, was granted in January 2023 (Official Journal of the Tunisian Republic (JORT) No. 6 of January 17, 2023).

As far as exploration activities are concerned, no new seismic acquisition or development wells were recorded at the end of March 2023.

On the other hand, there are new drilling operations for two new exploration wells, “Araifa-2” and “Sabeh-1”, at the end of March 2023.
