The first international olive oil fair and by-products, an initiative of the “MEDMAG Event” company, opened on Monday in Sousse.
The fair seeks to showcase the quality of Tunisian olive oil and further promote it in the international markets.
The five-day event also aims, according to Samir Ghani, organizer of the fair, to develop partnership between the Maghreb and Mediterranean countries olive-oil producers.
Some 60 exhibitors representing, in addition to Tunisia, Spain, Italy, France, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Turkey and Greece take part in the show. They display varieties of olive oil, in addition to equipments for analysis labs and all that is related to the olive harvest, storage and marketing of this product.
The fair is organized in association with the nutrition laboratory (Faculty of Medicine in Monastir), the Olive Tree Institute, the International Olive Council, the Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency, the Research Institute for Development, the Higher Biotechnology Institute and the Sfax-based Biotechnology Centre.
Concurrently to this fair, a scientific conference will be organized, in Monastir, “on modern techniques of olive oil production and table olive.”
A contest will be organized to choose the best varieties of olive oil, with the participation of 12 Tunisian producers, in addition to the organization of a workshop to train professional Tunisian tasters in this field.
