Tunisia: 20% of hotels risk closure

Khaled Fakhfakh, the president of the Tunisian Hotels Federation (FTH) said the federation will propose several solutions to the Ministry of Tourism for the restoration of the sector, including hotel debt restructuring and asking the STB to continue its support for the hotel industry.

Speaking on Express Fm on January 23, 2017, the president of the FTH also called on hoteliers to work hard to improve the quality of services and diversify them to attract more customers.

He also added that hotels are experiencing a difficult situation, especially those in southern Tunisia.

He stressed the need to find serious solutions to refresh the tourism sector, knowing that it accounts for about 13% of GDP and employs 200 thousand people directly and indirectly.

He, however, alerted, recalling that 20% of Tunisian hotels could close if the current situation persists.
