Tunisia: 26,000 hotel reservations canceled in Cap Bon

The number of canceled hotel reservations in Cap Bon reached 26,000 including 5,000 in the Yasmine-Hammamet resort, after last June terrorist on a hotel in the tourist resort of El Kantaoui, Sousse.

Four tourist units in the area are likely to close their doors because of the lack of tourists and customers, said the regional commissioner for tourism in Yasmine-Hammamet, Basma Dorgham, following the meeting, on Wednesday, of the extraordinary regional tourism council held at the headquarters of the governorate of Nabeul.

She stressed the importance of domestic tourism and Algerian tourists to save what remains of the season.

The months of June and July were among the more difficult periods experienced by the tourist activity in the region since the revolution, she noted, reporting a 75% drop in overnight stays and 65% decline in the number of tourists in the first ten days of July.

The regional commissioner of tourism in Nabeul Wahid Ben Youssef told TAP correspondent that the number of tourists who have interrupted their stay has reached 2,500, adding that 10 hotels have closed, including six in seasonal closure and which were not able to reopen after the Sousse attack.
