Tunisia: $ 500 million loan from the World Bank

Minister of Economy and Finance Hakim Ben Hammouda announced that the World Bank would grant Tunisia two loans totaling $ 500 million during the first quarter of 2015.

He said that the first $ 250 million credit will be disbursed in January 2015 while a second loan of the same amount will be paid in March.

“The decision by the International Monetary Fund on December 12 on the disbursement of the fifth tranche of the guarantee credit agreement with Tunisia is likely to encourage financial institutions to further support Tunisia during the next step,” he said.

The Minister has also expressed his desire to see the sovereign rating of Tunisia improve as several rating agencies are preparing to publish their reports by the end of Q1 2015.

“Recovering the rating of 2010 requires great efforts at all levels and continuous work for 4 or 5 years,” he, however, argued.
