The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) has just released its report on payments in Tunisia for the year 2024.
By the end of December 2024, over 24.5 million checks were issued, marking a 2.7% decrease compared to 2023, with a total value of 129.6 billion dinars (+5.5%).
At the close of 2024, the check rejection rate stood at 1.5% in volume, amounting to over 367,500 checks, and 2.5% in value, equivalent to 3.2 billion dinars.
For direct debits, more than 6.7 million transactions were processed in 2024 (+23.4%), totaling 25.1 billion dinars (+13.8%), with a high rejection rate of 44.1% in volume and 6.5% in value.
Regarding transfers, over 34.6 million transactions were recorded last year (+3.2%), with a total value of approximately 55.9 billion dinars (+10%). The rejection rate for transfers was 0.1% in volume and 0.1% in value.
