Tunisia: A gap of… TD 10 billion 2014 budget

The Executive Board of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. According to our information, the Board reviewed the Tunisian economy, described as “catastrophic” some elements of which are expected to be addressed by the Prime Minister in his speech to the Tunisian people.

This Situation is caused, in particular, by the huge gap between productivity which has increased by only 2 % in 2013 and the payroll that grew 8%.

The Executive Board of the BCT would thus have noted the existence of a huge financial gap in the 2014 budget. This gap would be TD 10 billion…

Financial efforts of the Tunisian government to fill this gap would have succeeded in finding the equivalent of just over TD 7 billion, but not still the remaining TD 2.5 billion needed.
