The contributions of France in Tunisia are not insignificant and that alone, disbursements made by the French Development Agency (AFD) in Tunisia amounted to € 492 million during the period 2011/2014, ambassador of France in Tunis, François Gouyette said at a press briefing Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the Embassy of France in Tunis, adding that France remains the first partner of Tunisia.
Regarding the progress of transition in Tunisia, the Ambassador said Tunisia has succeeded in building a democratic state of law, particularly with the adoption of the Constitution and the establishment of an independent government.
He further underlined that Tunisia gives today a good example in the region, in spite of the instability and fragility that characterize the entire region, citing the chaos in Libya.
The diplomat added that France aims through the organization of a France-Tunisia forum, on June 9 and 10 to give a signal of confidence and support for the democratic transition in Tunisia.
According to him, the decision to convert € 60 million of the Tunisian debt into development projects is also a very strong signal of support and contribution to the development of Tunisia.
