Tunisia: agriculture value added declines to -3.1% (ONAGRI)

The growth rate of agriculture value added fell to -3.1% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2023, from 0.7% during the fourth quarter of 2022.

The National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI) stated in its monthly bulletin published on Thursday that in terms of quarterly variations (i.e. compared to the last quarter of 2022), the volume of agricultural value added fell by 5.2%.

The deficit in the food trade balance decreased by 41.5% during the first four months of 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, to TND 240.7 million.

During the first three months of 2023, economic activity recorded a growth in gross domestic product (GDP) in volume adjusted for seasonal variations of 2.1%, compared to the first quarter of 2022, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

This is a slight improvement compared to the previous quarter (1.8%), according to the preliminary estimates of the Quarterly National Accounts published by the INS on May 15, 2023.
