Tunisia: Algeria offers US$250m to Tunisia

Algeria has offered US$250 million as ”preferential loan and financial aid” to Tunisia as per an agreement signed Sunday between the two countries.

According to the agreement signed by Algerian and Tunisian Prime Ministers, Abdelmalek Sellal and Mehdi Jomâa respectively, Algeria will deposit US$100 million in the Tunisian Central Bank,
and give a loan of US$100 million and a financial aid of US$50 million to the country.

Governor of the Tunisian Central Bank Chadky Ayari said the loan and aid would strengthen the resources of the state in terms of foreign exchange, increase the national reserves by three additional days and reinforce the resources of the budget.

He also disclosed that the discussions between the two parties focused on cooperation in the field of energy, investment and entrepreneurship, among others.
