Ways to bring back Algerian tourists to Tunisia in the shortest time possible and under the best conditions were discussed.
“Border crossings were modernised to ease entry procedures for Algerian tourists and preventive measures and logistics were also put in place,” said Balhassine.
The two Algerian officials said they are committed to increasing tourism in Tunisia which, they said, is one of the privileged destinations of Algerians.
Flights resumed last June ater a fourteen-month pandemic-induced air traffic suspension. Six weekly flights are presently scheduled: three are operated by Tunisiair and as many by Air Algérie.
The Land border shutdown announced in March 2020 in a bid to stem the spread of the coronavirus is still in place. The number of Algerian visitors dropped drastically.
Tunisia reported a 56% drop in the number of Algerian and Libyan tourists in Q1 of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, figures released by the National Tourism Board show. Neartly five million Algerian and Libyan tourists in 2020.
