Tunisia among 50 safest countries in world to travel to in 2026

Tunisia has secured the 43rd position globally and second place in Africa in the latest Travel Safety Index published by specialized platform HelloSafe, making it one of the top destinations for safe travel in 2026.

With a score of 72.9 out of 100, Tunisia now offers relatively stable safety conditions for travelers, despite some occasional vulnerabilities related to infrastructure and local environmental factors, according to the report.

Updated in early March 2026, the ranking provides a multi-dimensional analysis of safety conditions in tourist destinations worldwide. HelloSafe bases its assessment on five key indicators: public safety and crime rates, political and social stability, health security, cybersecurity (examining personal data protection and vulnerability to cyberattacks), and environmental risks.

On the African continent, only two countries made it into the global Top 50. Morocco slightly edges out its neighbor with a score of 73.25, ranking 42nd worldwide.

HelloSafe explains that Africa remains generally underrepresented in the Top 50 primarily due to structural risks, including limited healthcare infrastructure, fragile road safety conditions, and political or social instability in certain areas. However, the platform notes that “North Africa maintains relatively safe and highly attractive destinations for tourism.”

Iceland tops the global ranking as the safest country for travel in 2026, achieving an exceptional score of 92.4 out of 100, driven by its low crime rate and social stability.

It is followed by Switzerland (91.1), Norway (90.85), Finland (90.6), and Denmark (89.95), rounding out the top five.

Europe remains the safest region overall, offering institutional stability, efficient healthcare systems, and robust infrastructure. In the Arab world, Bahrain ranks as the safest travel destination, placing 36th globally with a score of 75.35, recognized for its political stability, modern infrastructure, and low crime rate relative to the region.
