Tunisia: BCT reports continued worsening of deficit

The Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT ) noted the continued worsening of the current account deficit in the first two months of the current year to 1.5 % of GDP against 1 2 % over the same period of 2013.

In a statement released Thursday, the Central Bank also noted the widening trade deficit due to the slowdown in exports, in contrast to the acceleration of imports. According to the BCT, the widening of the trade deficit is mainly attributed to the energy and food balance.

BCT noted , however, that the net foreign assets remain at an acceptable level through the mobilization of external resources , to stand at 11,475 MTD or the equivalent of 103 days of imports to March 25 against 11,219 MTD and 105 days on the same date in 2013.
