Tunisia: budget deficit worsens to 3,814 MTD

At the end of August 2017, the widening in the budget deficit, excluding the amortization of the debt, increased to 3,814 MTD against 3,244 MTD a year earlier.

This development was prompted by a significant increase in current expenditure and interest on public debt, which largely exceeded the rise in own resources.

This is what was indicated by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) in its last note for the first eight months of this year.

With regard to the State’s own resources, they have accumulated, at the end of the first eight months of 2017, an amount of 15,149 MTD, up 8.5% compared with the same period in 2016, good tax revenues totaling 14,052 MTD, up 15.3%.

On the other hand, non-tax revenues declined to 1,097 MTD, against 1,775 MTD a year earlier, the latter being characterized by the receipt of proceeds from the sale of the 4G mobile phone license for an amount of 471 MTD.
